Ta'Quawn Henderson, 17, is being held without bail and facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of 17-year-old Jai'lyn Jones, Montgomery County Police said.

Jones was reported missing by his mother on January 21, 2022, according to police. He was later found brutally stabbed and mutilated in the 18900 block of Grotto Lane in Germantown on Jan. 24.

Investigators later learned Jones indicated he was going to see Henderson, with whom he attended Northwest High School. Henderson was ultimately linked to Jones' death, police said.

Jones' mother held an event, called the “Justice for Jai’lyn Rally,” last month to advocate for increase safety precautions in the area.

No motive has been established and while Henderson has been arrested, authorities believe there may be other contributing individuals. The investigation is ongoing.
